Unite for HER is pleased to offer a variety of wellness and breast cancer education resources. You can find articles, tips and information in our education section of this website. We also provide guest speaker services to Philadelphia area organizations and businesses who are interested in learning valuable information about healthy lifestyle choices that will benefit your overall health and wellness. To request an appearance by Sue Weldon, please contact her at firstname.lastname@example.org.
When Unite for HER founder Sue Weldon was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2004, she began searching for information on therapies that would complement the medical treatments she was receiving.
What she discovered was a lack of easily accessible resources on topics like nutrition, acupuncture, massage, yoga, counseling and other ways for breast cancer patients to enhance their wellness and care for their emotional, spiritual and physical needs.
Since its establishment as a nonprofit organization in 2009, Unite for HER’s cornerstone has been to bridge that gap for breast cancer patients, focusing on wellness initiatives that will positively impact their health, as well as the health of all women and girls.
Unite for HER Mission
Our mission is to make a positive difference in the lives of women and girls by supporting and providing breast cancer and wellness programs that educate, empower and restore.
Educate We understand the lifelong value of educating women and girls of all ages about the importance of healthy lifestyle choices and disease prevention. Unite for HER seeks to find relevant, interesting and fun ways of communicating those important messages by hosting and participating in wellness days, health fairs, outreach and fundraising events, as well as developing print materials, videos and utilizing social media outlets. We believe that through education, we can empower generations of women to live healthier.
We recognize the power of the individual. By offering a variety of Unite for HER initiatives, volunteers are given opportunities to develop leadership skills and fulfill their potential in service to their community and women with breast cancer. We especially encourage youth-directed endeavors, such as the Students Unite program. Unite for HER understands the expense of fighting breast cancer, so we also provide financial empowerment through grants. We currently offer annual grants to students, USAG gymnasts, coaches, and judges.
Unite for HER, in partnership with local hospitals, hosts “Wellness Day” events introducing breast cancer patients to complementary therapies that can help them become fully restored. Attendees meet with nutrition, massage, yoga, meditation, and acupuncture professionals to learn more about strategies that will support their health and wellness.
